Who may apply for a short-term residence permit, we will continue our list as following:
11. Foreigners participating in education, research, internships, or courses through public institutions
The permit cannot exceed one year.
Those whose accommodation, food, and healthcare expenses are covered by public institutions are exempt from demonstrating financial capability or health insurance.
12. Foreigners who apply within six months after graduating from a higher education institution in Turkey
A one-time residence permit of up to one year may be issued.
13. Foreign investors who do not work in Turkey but make investments in the scope and amount determined by the Council of Ministers, and their families
These foreigners, their spouses, and their dependent children may receive residence permits for up to five years.
This regulation aims to attract qualified foreign investors and facilitate residence procedures.
14. Citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)
They may be issued residence permits for up to five years.
Duration of the Short-Term Residence Permit
According to the Law:
• Up to 2 years for foreigners subject to general conditions,
• Up to 5 years for investors and TRNC citizens.
Conditions for Obtaining a Short-Term Residence Permit
Under Article 32 of the Law, applicants must:
•Provide documents concerning their purpose of stay,
•Not fall under the scope of entry bans in Article 7,
•Reside in accommodation meeting general health and safety standards,
•Provide a criminal record if requested,
•Declare their address in Turkey.
When Is a Short-Term Residence Permit Rejected, Cancelled, or Not Extended?
A short-term residence permit may be denied, cancelled, or not renewed in the following circumstances:
• Failure to meet or maintain the required conditions,
• Using the permit for purposes other than declared,
• Being subject to a deportation order or entry ban,
• Violations related to time spent outside Turkey.
In these cases, the administration has broad discretionary authority.
Short-term residence permits constitute an important legal status for foreigners who wish to temporarily stay in Turkey for a specific purpose. However, the purpose of stay, required documents, and duration of the permit are fully determined by statutory and regulatory provisions.
